I officially stopped breastfeeding on Thursday. I had weaned Emma down to nursing just twice a day and then when David and Melanie watched her Thursday (They watch her every Thursday night which has been a huge blessing) she had only nursed once that day, and I decided that would be the ideal time. It was indeed nice not to have to wake up early to pump before work on Saturday but oh my gosh, it hurt sooo badly. I have had a great resource of women around me at work who had all breastfed their babies so they all had little pieces of advice. I chugged peppermint tea (gross!), put ice packs on, alternated with hot showers and today, I still feel full but it doesn't hurt nearly as much.
It's very bittersweet ending breastfeeding. It took several months for Emma and I to get on a good, easy routine so I didn't feel the bond early on. I really enjoyed providing for her around month three. What an awesome feeling where codependency is not a negative thing.
I will not miss:
Pumping at work
Wondering if Emma is getting enough to eat
Whether Emma is eating too much
Is Emma eating so often because she's not getting enough?
It is so stressful! However. :-) I can't wait to do it all over again. Adam and I havevn't quite settled onto a number of how many children we want. We play with the idea, talk about the future and how it will be so much fun to have a house full of kids. On the other hand, it is hard work and you have to be on top of your game. I think we'll just know when we know!
P.S. Can someone help me with the background template? I want to get rid of the birdie one but don't know where it is in the html set up. Thanks!
So glad you and Adam are enjoying baby Emma. She is such a precious girl. I love you all. Mimi
ReplyDeleteWhat birdie?
ReplyDeleteI figured out how to fix it, apparently, before you read the post.
